Maynard Anderson

Currently, President, The Arcadia Institute, Inc., a non-profit organization engaged in education, research and humanitarian activities. He is a member of the board of directors, Leave No Veteran Behind, Chicago, Illinois; the National Security Institute, Boston, Massachusetts; Klas Telecom Government, Herndon, Virginia, and Chair, board of directors, Anderlen Partners, Inc., Alexandria, Virginia.

Born in Iowa, he is a graduate of Luther College (B.A.) and the Federal Executive Institute. His military service was with the United States Army Counterintelligence Corps. In February 1994, he retired from the federal service as the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Security Policy (Acting). In that position he advised The Secretary of Defense in the development of policy concerning International Security programs, NATO Security, crisis management, emergency planning and preparedness, continuity of government, as well as Defense security and counterintelligence programs. He chaired the National Disclosure Policy Committee which determines what classified weapons systems the United States will share with foreign countries. In the first Bush Administration, he chaired the National Advisory Group/Security Countermeasures.

He previously served as the United States Representative to the NATO Security Committee. He was the Defense member of the Director of Central Intelligence Security Forum, and the chair of the US/Canada Security Committee. He served as an Advisor to Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s Commission on Protecting and Reducing Government Security. He served a four year term as an industry member of the National Industrial Security Program Policy Advisory Committee.

From 1988 to 2003, he was a delegate to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe with assignment to the Committee on Sustainable Development. He is an honorary faculty member of the Defense Security Institute, a former lecturer in the School of Criminal Justice, Michigan State University, and a lecturer in Political Science at Luther College. He served two terms as the Chair, board of directors, National Intellectual Property Law Institute.

In 1985 and 1992, he received the Presidential Rank of Meritorious Executive, and in 1992, was awarded the Department of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service Medal for exceptional contributions to the national security.
